‘This photo of a male Scarlet dragonfly was photographed in the Damvallei nature reserve near Gent in Belgium. I hoped for sunny conditions that morning, but unfortunately it was cloudy. However, clouds don’t have to spoil all the fun. You can still create atmospheric images even when there is no direct sunlight. I positioned the dragonfly against the clouded sky and overexposed by 2 stops to blow out the highlights and create a high key effect. Then I used in-camera multiple exposure and took a close-up shot of its wings slightly out of focus.’
