Matthew says:
‘Whilst on a trip to Northumberland in January,  I spent a morning exploring the shoreline on Holy Island. The decaying hulls of the upturned fishing boats now used for storage are popular with photographers visiting the area. A number of newer boats that had been taken out of the sea for the winter months also caught my eye.

Being the perfect time to carry out maintenance, this particular boat had received a fresh coat of paint, and to my delight the paint had run, producing a beautiful patina of streaks and drips down its hull. Its angular form was also interesting and the various facets were picked out in the morning sun. Setting up my tripod, I explored a variety of geometric patterns with a telephoto lens, but I found the simplicity of this particular set of ‘folds’ very appealing.’
