‘Working in my home studio, I took some white textured paper and tore it into jagged strips. I arranged the strips to resemble a mountain landscape, and then attached them to a thin piece of wood suspended from a clamp. With a grid and desaturated green gel attached, an off-camera flash was used to light and colour the paper. With the camera in multiple-exposure mode, I lit the strips from the side and back – this accentuated their texture and formed strong highlights and shadows, creating the appearance of a rocky landscape. This image is the result of two exposures. I have photographed white paper strips before, but I have always used a mix of colours in my composition. I was inspired by the CUPOTY CHALLENGE to develop a dynamic composition centred around one dominant colour.’
