Picture title: Nigella Flower in Evening Light
Nationality:
British
Occupation: Teacher and photographer

Molly:
‘I was shooting flowers in my garden during the summer lockdown and just as I was photographing this particular Love in a Mist (Nigella damsacena)flower my son walked past in the background. By coincidence the blue of his T-shirt was almost identical to the flower! I asked him to stand still so that I could frame the shot properly, and the lucky moment was captured. The evening light was very soft and the flower almost seemed to glow. I like the sculptural quality of the feathery bracts that almost enclose the flower. I cropped the picture in post-production to enhance the shape.’

Technical information:
Sony RX10 III
24-600mm (equivalent)
ISO 200
f/5
1/160sec
Post processing: Processed first in Lightroom to lighten slightly and add a little saturation, then opened in Photoshop to remove a few distracting bracts and adjust the crop.
