Geraint Evans | Cotton Moor

Name: Geraint Evans
Picture title: Cotton Moor
Nationality:
British
Occupation: Retired college lecturer

Geraint:
‘Cotton grass (Eriphorum) carpets the moors of northern Britain during May and June. This year, despite lockdown, I was able to get to my local patch Ilkley Moor and immerse myself in this wonderful display for a couple of hours. I took lots of images in an effort to portray the delicate beauty of the individual seed heads and the wider blanket.

The image here, I hope, manages to covey the experience of laying in the moor grasses, and the beauty of being surrounded by swaying seed heads. The moors at this time of year are home to many wild nesting birds including curlew, golden plover and snipe, and the noise is magical.’
