Luca says:
Sometimes people ask me, "How did you see it?". Spending a lot of time in nature you learn to spot even the smallest details of an animal or its slightest movement. However, there is an animal that made me less certain of myself: the stick insect; and in particular, a phasmid I met in the Isalo National Park, Madagascar.
This creature was impossible to spot without the help of guides. Extraordinary is the only word that comes to mind to describe the most invisible animal I've ever seen.
The picture was made in situ, without any manipulation of the animal who’s very fragile and sensitive to any kind of disturbance. To take this shot, I searched for an insect that was surrounded by fewer (real) sticks and viewed within it’s wider habitat – I photographed a gigantic rock in the background as it is typical of the rocky, desert landscape of the Isalo National Park.
