‘Finland is a vast country with countless lakes, forests and large areas of heathland. The Silver-studded Blues (Plebejus argus) love these dry heath forests and can be easily found there. The challenge, however, is to find many in the same area for the best photographic opportunities. I know of many great spots in the Netherlands, where I am from, but in Finland where I live, I had not found one. That is, until last year. No more than 20km from where I live, in a dry heath forest, there must have been hundreds of blues waiting to be photographed. I simply couldn’t believe it. It’s a cliché but so true: “often beauty can be found closer than you think.”‘
