‘Gomphotheres were relatives of our modern elephants. Most were smaller and shorter, with a short trunk and long lower jaw with tusks. This specimen is from the Pliocene Epoch with an estimated age of 2-3 million years. The image here shows a polished section of the crown of a tooth. The blue mineral associated with the enamel is vivianite.’
